Game Bridge

The Game bridge lets MAIRA work with racing games other than iRacing. It reads telemetry from the other game and translates it into iRacing format on the fly, so MAIRA’s force feedback engine, effects, and other features work as if iRacing were running. This feature is experimental and support for more games is being added over time.

This feature is very much experimental and a work in progress – not every bridge has been personally validated yet. Please reduce the overall strength to a low level before activating a bridge, so the wheel can’t rip your arms off if something is not set up correctly. Have fun!

Games

Each supported game has its own switch, and all of the switches default to OFF. Games marked “Coming soon” are planned but not working yet, and their switches are disabled.

Le Mans Ultimate

Enables the Le Mans Ultimate bridge. MAIRA reads the game’s built-in shared memory directly – you do not need to install any plugins or change any game files. While the bridge is active the game’s actual car model (for example “Aston Martin Valkyrie LMH”) and track name are used for MAIRA’s per-car and per-track settings, just like with iRacing.

Assetto Corsa

Enables the Assetto Corsa bridge. MAIRA reads the game’s built-in shared memory directly, including its high rate (about 330 Hz) force feedback signal, and uses the game’s car and track names for per-car and per-track settings.

Assetto Corsa Competizione

Enables the Assetto Corsa Competizione bridge. Works exactly like the Assetto Corsa bridge – no plugins or game file changes needed.

Assetto Corsa EVO

Enables the Assetto Corsa EVO bridge. MAIRA reads EVO’s built-in shared memory directly – no plugins or game file changes needed, and nothing needs to be turned on inside the game.

Assetto Corsa Rally

Enables the Assetto Corsa Rally bridge. Force feedback works fully, but this early access game does not yet publish its car and stage names, so per-car and per-track settings are shared across the whole game for now.

rFactor 2

Enables the rFactor 2 bridge. rFactor 2 has no built-in shared memory, so this bridge requires the free community “rFactor 2 Shared Memory Map Plugin” (by The Iron Wolf) to be installed in the game – if you already use SimHub or Crew Chief with rFactor 2, you almost certainly have it already.

RaceRoom Racing Experience

Enables the RaceRoom bridge. MAIRA reads the game’s built-in shared memory directly. RaceRoom updates its data at a full 400 Hz – the highest rate of any bridged game. If MAIRA does not connect, make sure the shared memory option is enabled in RaceRoom’s settings.

vJoy

Some games (Assetto Corsa, for example) give you no way to turn off their built-in force feedback, so they fight MAIRA for control of your wheelbase. This section solves that using the free vJoy virtual joystick driver: MAIRA passes your wheelbase’s steering axis through to the vJoy device, you bind the game’s steering input to the vJoy X axis, and the game then sends its force feedback to the vJoy device (which ignores it) instead of to your real wheel – leaving MAIRA in full control.

Send steering to the vJoy device

Passes your wheelbase’s steering axis through to the vJoy virtual joystick. This requires the vJoy driver to be installed – if vJoy is not available, a warning appears next to this switch (install the vJoy driver and restart MAIRA).

Steering test

While this is on, the steering wheel buttons below control the vJoy steering axis and your wheelbase is not passed through. Use this when binding the steering input in the game, so only the vJoy axis moves and the game cannot pick your real wheel by mistake.

The steering wheel position buttons hold the vJoy axis at a fixed position (full left, 90° left, center, 90° right, or full right). The steering wheel sweep button continuously rocks the axis from side to side – some games (Assetto Corsa included) ignore controller input while their window is in the background, so start the sweep, click over to the game, and bind the steering there while the axis is still moving. The sweep button blinks while the sweep is running; press it again to stop.

How it works

Switch on the games you want to bridge and leave them on. The bridge activates automatically when an enabled game is running – within a second or two of loading into a session, MAIRA connects just like it does when iRacing starts, and everything works normally from there. When you exit the game, MAIRA automatically switches back to waiting for iRacing.

Force feedback quality depends on the rate each game publishes its steering torque at: RaceRoom updates at 400 Hz, the Assetto Corsa family at about 330 Hz, Le Mans Ultimate at 100 Hz, and rFactor 2 at 50 Hz (iRacing’s native signal is 360 Hz). MAIRA samples every bridged game at the full 360 Hz and runs the same prediction and smoothing engine it uses for iRacing, so lower rate games still feel smooth. Some MAIRA features that depend on iRacing-only data (for example Trading Paints and the incident count) remain inactive while a bridge is active.

Setting up a game

  • Turn OFF force feedback inside the game (set its FFB strength to zero for your wheel) so the game does not fight MAIRA for control of your wheelbase.
  • Let the game synchronize your wheel rotation, or make sure your wheelbase rotation matches the game’s per-car rotation, so the steering angle and soft lock line up with your physical wheel.
  • As with iRacing, start with a conservative max force setting and use the auto max force feature to find the right value for each car.
